Artist Statement
My work is an investigation of the interaction between nature and the Industrial world. My work often represents an irony or conflict between opposing forces by examining specific instances of competition for dominance between humans and the natural world. The need to visually represent these conflicts for a wider audience stems from a feeling of love and loss in the face of persistent encroachment by humankind on our natural environments. I am attempting to depict with paint and often humor, the places where tragedy and beauty overlap or collide. Over time I attempt to build some level of intimacy and visual literacy with my subjects, their situations and the overall content of the work. My approach is as much about playful curiosity as it is about believable representations or underlying moral appeals.
